HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) imposed a ₹10,000 fine on a person linked to Orange Tree Furniture Shop in Banjara Hills for allegedly misusing drinking water supplied by the Board.

Officials said the person was found washing the shop premises using potable water meant for domestic consumption. The violation was detected during inspections by Water Board staff in the area.

Acting on the complaint, HMWSSB officials imposed the penalty and warned against the misuse of drinking water, particularly during the summer season when demand remains high.

“Drinking water is meant only for essential use. Strict action will be taken against violators,” HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy said.

The Water Board has urged residents and commercial establishments to avoid using potable water for non-essential activities such as washing vehicles, cleaning premises and gardening.
