Operation Kavach: Hyderabad Police Inspect 15,000 Vehicles, Seize 1,600 in Citywide Drive

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad City Police on Friday night carried out a large-scale cordon and search operation, ‘Operation Kavach’, deploying nearly 5,000 personnel across 150 locations to strengthen law and order. The drive began at 22.30 IST and continued until 01.00 IST.
City Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar visited key locations in Tolichowki and Gulzar Houz in the Old City, falling under the South West and South Zones, where he supervised checks and issued instructions to field staff. He later reviewed the operation from the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre in Banjara Hills using live CCTV feeds. He also interacted with Joint Commissioner (Law and Order) Tafseer Iqubal and Station House Officers to assess progress.
Vehicles seized, suspects detained
Police said teams from Law and Order, the Task Force, Traffic and the Armed Reserve conducted coordinated checks across the city. Nearly 15,000 vehicles were inspected, while 1,600 were seized for lack of valid documents. Eight people were taken into custody.
In Tukaram Gate limits, officers recovered half a kilogram of ganja. A total of 105 petty cases were registered during the drive.
Aim is crime-free Hyderabad, says CP
Sajjanar commended the personnel for their late-night deployment and said the initiative was intended to enhance public safety. “‘Operation Kavach’ was launched to make Hyderabad a crime-free city and reinforce a sense of security among citizens,” he said. He added that strict action would be taken against anyone involved in illegal activities or driving without proper documents.
Surprise checks to continue
The Commissioner said the operation would not be limited to a single night. “Surprise inspections will continue,” he said, appreciating the efforts of the 5,000 personnel who participated in the drive.
