Onam 2024: Ponnonom Extravaganza Unites Malayalis in Nallagandla

Nallagandla: The MANAS (Malayali Association of Nallagandla and Serilingampally) hosted a vibrant celebration for Onam 2024, the Ponnonom Extravaganza on September 29, 2024 (Sunday). The event, held in the Serilingampally zone, brought together the local Malayali community for a day of culture, festivity, and togetherness.

Telangana Cabinet Minister for Panchayati Raj & Rural Development, Rural Water Supply, Women and Child Welfare, Seethakka, who served as the chief guest, graced the celebration. Congress leaders Pavan and Raghu also attended the Onam celebrations.

Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Ajith Nair, a member of the Malayali community, expressed his enthusiasm, “Every year, we celebrate Onam grandly. The MANAS association organised an incredible Ponnonom Extravaganza, where families created beautiful Pookalam decorations with flowers. The day featured captivating performances, including Kathakali, Kalaripayattu, Bharatanatyam, and Bollywood songs by children, alongside various games. It was truly one of the best Onam celebrations we had in this area.”

Ajith Nair highlighted the efforts of Sreejith Nair and the association members, who began planning the event a month in advance. He noted that Minister Seethakka addressed attendees on the importance of cultural exchange and shared a traditional Onam Sadhya with the community. “She thoroughly enjoyed the festivities,” he added.

Ranjitha Ajith Nair said, “It was a fantastic event! The Pookalam decorations and performances by Maaveli artists Kathakali, Bharatanatyam, and Kalaripayattu showcased immense talent. The authenticity of the Onam Sadhya was remarkable, with cooks coming all the way from Palghat to deliver genuine Kerala flavours. Having Minister Seethakka as the chief guest was another highlight of the programme. Kudos to Sreejith and the entire association for such a grand celebration.”

Dr. Krishna P. Syam commended the organisers for their exceptional work, stating, “They did a commendable job arranging this event. We truly enjoyed the Sadya.”

Radhika Vivek expressed her joy at hosting the event. “I had a memorable day! Thanks to the volunteers for this opportunity. Together with the energetic Bimal Chettan, we had a fantastic time. The Sadya was delicious, and the palate Payasam was amazing. I look forward to more such events.”

Uma added, “This was one of the best Onam celebrations in the area! I loved the decorations, photo booth, and the cultural programs, especially the Kathakali performance. As a Malayali mom and one of the volunteers, I believe it’s crucial to expose the next generation to our cultural art forms. Let’s respect the artists and preserve our heritage!”
