Hyderabad’s Old City Metro Rail works set to begin in January first week

Hyderabad: With the land acquisition process for the Old City metro route expansion currently underway, the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has set the ball rolling for the preliminary works between MG Bus Station (MGBS) and Chandrayangutta.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, NVS Reddy, Managing Director (MD), HMRL, said that the officials are acquiring land to begin the construction activity on the 7.5 kilometer-long stretch between MG Bus Station and Chandrayangutta.
The official informed that the metro’s new alignment and the road widening programme would affect nearly 1,100 properties in the Old City. However, all the heritage and religious structures on the proposed route would be spared. He added that the authorities have dispatched the sketches of 800 properties to the Collector.
NVS Reddy said the owners of the affected properties were sent notifications and the demolition works are expected to begin in December. Highlighting the deployment of innovative engineering solutions and calibrated adjustment of metro pillars and station locations for the metro route expansion in Old City, the official said the authorities have managed to protect 103 religious and other sensitive structures on the stretch.
As per the GHMC Master Plan, the roads from Darulshifa Junction to Shalibanda Junction will be widened to 100. Currently, these roads are less than 70 feet. During the process, most of the road facing properties may get affected.
