Outrage as nurse attacked by dog bite patient for asking prescription in Shadnagar, IMA condemns
Hyderabad: A female nurse was attacked by a dog bite patient in Community Healthcare Center(CHC), Shadnagar on Friday. The commotion took place as the nurse asked the patient to bring the prescription to administer a second dose of rabies vaccine. The victim reportedly approached Shadnagar police and lodged a complaint.
The nurse who was attacked by the patient said, “The woman along with her husband came to the health care center, Shadnagar for a second dose of the vaccine on Friday morning. As she was not carrying a prescription we asked her to bring the prescription. Both of them left the center in vexation. Later we got to know that her husband beat her. Subsequently she returned to the health center and attacked me”. During the attack the nurse’s left hand got sprained and her neck sustained injury.
The attack video was being shared in social media groups of medical professionals. In the video the patient can be heard arguing with the nurse about administering the vaccine and attacking her while the others trying to pacify her.
IMA condemns
Meanwhile, Indian Medical Association (IMA) Vice President of the Hyderabad chapter, Dr Arjun Raj condemned these kinds of attacks on medical professionals and called for a Central Act for enhanced safety of the medical professionals working for the welfare of the people.
Speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, Dr Arjun Raj said, “The central government should consider Health professions protection paramount. They should enact a law by bringing up a special ordinance. So that it will give confidence to medical professionals working in government and private sectors all over India.
He further added “Medical profession Anti harassment and Anti violence law, 2024 should be enacted immediately. The Prime Minister, Union Health Minister and Union Home Minister should convene an immediate meeting and enact a Law protecting medical professionals through a special ordinance at the earliest.”
