Nizampet residents urge HMWSSB to stop Manjeera water wastage in Pragathi Nagar

Nizampet: Residents of Pragathi Nagar, Nizampet are raising concerns over the continued wastage of Manjeera water, urging the Nizampet Municipal Corporation and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to take swift action to repair the leak and prevent further water loss. The issue, which began yesterday afternoon at around 3 p.m., persists today, with water flowing unchecked along the main road opposite Ideal Kitchen.

Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Sai Teja, a social activist and resident of Nizampet, expressed his frustration, saying, “Wasting water is a crime. It can be considered criminal wastage, especially when it’s Manjeera water, which is a valuable resource. In the summer season, we face water scarcity, yet the water has been flowing continuously since yesterday. We informed HMWSSB about the issue, but it remains unaddressed.”

Teja further highlighted the severity of the situation, stating, “I have raised the issue with multiple authorities, including HMWSSB, but there has been no response. Even after filing a formal complaint, the issue has not been resolved. Wasting water like this is not just irresponsible; it is a punishable offense, and it should not be ignored.”

The concern was highlighted by Parivarthan – Be The Change, who shared a post on social media, drawing attention to the leakage, “@HMWSSBOnline water leakage opp Ideal Kitchen, Main Road, Pragathi Nagar 500090. Please check DM for contact number.”

In response to the complaint, the official handle of HMWSSB replied, “Good morning sir, a complaint with token number 3870 has been registered and the concerned section manager, @hmwssbgmom23 @hmwssbmgrPrgngr, has been informed. The issue will be rectified as soon as possible. Thank you.”

Despite the acknowledgment from HMWSSB, local residents like Bellam Srinivas are expressing dissatisfaction over the lack of action. “More and more water is going to waste, and even after raising complaints, no action seems to have been taken,” he said. “Can you please provide the section manager’s contact number for follow-up?” he added, tagging HMWSSB officials on social media.
