Water tankers are back on roads as Nizampet residents face water woes

Despite these efforts, residents are facing difficulties, with some having to dig wells up to 1,500 feet deep to access water. The water shortage is a recurring problem in Hyderabad, especially during the summer months.
Nizampet Faces Water Woes, Tankers Resume Supply Across Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Even though the summer season is weeks away, water tankers are back in parts of Hyderabad. The apartments and housing communities in Nizampet are facing woes as their water taps have gone dry.

The water tankers were seen supplying water to the residents of Bandari Layout on Monday. The residents in bustling localities such as Madhava Hills and JV Hill in Kondapur are also struggling to carry out their daily chores due to lack of water supply.

The officials of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) have clarified that due to an issue in the Masjid Banda area, the water supply has disrupted for the locals of Kondapur and adjoining localities.

Residents of Shantinagar colony, Ahmed Nagar, Ghazi Banda and Anand Bagh are facing water shortages due to frequent supply disruptions being announced by the water board.

During a recent review meeting with the water board officials on the water needs of Hyderabad, the chief minister Revanth Reddy instructed the officials to draft a comprehensive plan to address the drinking water needs of Greater Hyderabad for the next 25 years.

The city’s with 13.79 lakh drinking water connections have been drawing water from Manjira and Singur projects, rivers Godavari and Krishna and now the chief minister directed water board officials to earmark 20 tmcft of water from Mallanna Sagar project as part of Godavari Phase-II project.

In May 2024, the water tankers clocked 1.41 lakh trips across Greater Hyderabad to address the water needs of the city residents. According to HMWSSB officials, they received maximum calls for water tankers from SR Nagar, Asif Nagar, Kukatpally, Nizampet, and Ramchandrapuram localities.

It is reported that the falling water levels in these areas have led to the water woes for the residents from these areas. The locals have said they need to dig up to 1,000 to 1,500 feet to get water.
