NIZAMABAD: Tiger from Tadoba nears district forests

NIZAMABAD: A male tiger that strayed from the Tadoba forests in Maharashtra has reached the Jagtial region and may enter forest areas of Nizamabad district, forest officials said.
Senior officials have alerted range officers in Kammarapally, Sirikonda and Indalwai forest ranges to monitor its movement.
The tiger travelled from Tadoba through Jannaram in erstwhile Adilabad district to Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. It later moved through Siddipet and Rajanna Sircilla districts before entering Jagtial district.
In the Vemulawada area, it killed a cow.
Forest officials estimate the male tiger weighs about 250 kg. It has reportedly been named J-1, though there has been no official announcement.
Tiger may cover 20 km daily
With the tiger likely to move towards Nizamabad forest areas, four trackers from Khanapur have been deployed in the district.
Two teams are patrolling Indalwai range, one team in Kammarapally range and another in Sirikonda range. The teams are conducting day and night patrols along forest borders.
Officials clarified that the tiger currently roaming near the Nizamabad border is different from the one that earlier moved up to Kamareddy via Sirikonda range.
Forest authorities said the tiger is travelling nearly 20 km a day and may enter both border and interior forest areas of the district.
They have advised shepherds and goat herders not to enter forests in Kammarapally, Sirikonda and Indalwai ranges.
Nizamabad District Forest Officer Vikas Meena said patrols are being conducted with trackers and warned residents of villages near forest and border areas not to venture inside.
