Nizamabad Murder: Wife, Associate Held for Allegedly Killing Gulf-Returned Husband
HYDERABAD: A Gulf-returned man was allegedly murdered by his wife after he decided to remain in India instead of returning abroad, police said. Investigators alleged that she conspired with an associate to kill him because his presence had become an obstacle to her alleged extramarital relationship.
The victim, Dayini Prashanth, belonged to Nyalkal village in Mopal mandal of Nizamabad district. He had worked in the Gulf for the past two years and returned home on June 27.
Police said Prashanth told his wife, Sandhya, that he wanted to stay in India permanently and no longer wished to return to the Gulf.
According to investigators, Sandhya, a nurse at a private hospital in Nizamabad, was allegedly involved in an extramarital relationship with Anil, a resident of Indrapuri. Police alleged that she feared her husband’s decision to stay in India would disrupt the relationship. They believe she started planning his murder nearly three months earlier.
Police allege first murder attempt failed
Police alleged that Sandhya sought help from Venkata Sai, alias Bunty, of Nyalkal, to kill Prashanth. Investigators said she gave Bunty money to buy liquor and instructed him to intoxicate Prashanth before pushing him off a terrace.
On June 29, Bunty and Prashanth consumed alcohol together. An argument reportedly broke out during the drinking session. Police alleged that Sandhya joined Bunty and both pushed Prashanth from the terrace.
Prashanth suffered injuries and was admitted to the Government General Hospital. Doctors later shifted him to a private hospital in Khaleelwadi for treatment. Police said Anil also visited the hospital while Prashanth was recovering.
Second attempt allegedly turned fatal
After Prashanth’s condition improved, Sandhya allegedly brought him home. Police alleged that she crushed sleeping pills, mixed them with toilet cleaner, and injected the toxic mixture into him using a syringe.
Soon after, Prashanth developed severe vomiting and diarrhoea. Investigators also alleged that Sandhya remained in constant phone contact with her alleged lover while her husband struggled for life.
Police further alleged that on June 30, Sandhya pushed the weakened Prashanth off the bed, causing fatal injuries. She then allegedly tried to portray his death as the result of his worsening health.
Mother’s complaint leads to arrests
Prashanth’s mother, Shyamala, suspected foul play and lodged a complaint against Sandhya and Bunty.
During questioning, Bunty allegedly confessed to his role in the crime, police said. His statement allegedly exposed the murder conspiracy.
Police arrested Sandhya and Bunty, and a court remanded them to judicial custody on July 4. Investigators are continuing the probe, including the alleged role of Anil in the case.
