Telangana constable stabbed to death by habitual offender in Nizamabad

NIZAMABAD: A 42-year-old constable was stabbed to death by a habitual offender while escorting him to a police station in Nizamabad city on October 17.

Police said Constable E Pramod was taking the accused, identified as Sheikh Riyaz, on a two-wheeler when Shaik Riyaz attacked him with a knife between 8.30 PM and 9.00 PM. Pramod suffered critical injuries to his chest and succumbed soon after.

Accused fled after fatal assault
Shaik Riyaz, a known offender involved in vehicle thefts and chain-snatching cases, escaped from the scene. Police have launched a massive manhunt to trace and apprehend him.

Special teams formed to nab accused
Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) B Shivadhar Reddy expressed deep grief over the death of what he called a “sincere and duty-minded constable”. He directed Nizamabad Police Commissioner P Sai Chaitanya to form special teams to nab the absconding accused and asked Multi-Zone-I Inspector General of Police S Chandrashekhar Reddy to visit Nizamabad to monitor the situation closely.

DGP assures family support
The DGP assured that all possible assistance would be extended to Pramod’s bereaved family. He said the case was being treated as a top priority and that stringent action would be taken against the offender once arrested.
