Nizam College Women students Protests for Hostels

Hyderabad: Undergraduate students at Nizam College continued their silent protest until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, demanding 100% hostel accommodation for female degree students.

In response to the ongoing protests, Professor B. Bhima, Principal of Nizam College, addressed the media and stated, “We will allocate hostel seats only for students enrolled in regular courses. This decision has been made in light of the students’ agitation.” He explained that the Nizam College Girls Hostel has four rooms on the ground floor designated for physically challenged students and an additional four rooms for female postgraduate (PG) students.

The hostel’s first floor is designated for PG students, the second floor for students in degree courses, and the third floor for additional degree students. According to Professor Bhima, hostel allotment will be strictly for students pursuing regular (budgeted) courses.

Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, a student from Nizam College, said, “The Principal mentioned that hostel allocation would be exclusively for students of regular courses. However, many students are from self-financing courses, and we believe every student deserves hostel accommodation. We oppose this decision and demand 100% hostel allocation for undergraduate girls.”

The students have expressed dissatisfaction with the college management’s decision to share hostel spaces between postgraduate and undergraduate women. They argue that postgraduate students, who are expected to vacate the hostel in September, should be accommodated in the existing hostel facilities, leaving the entire hostel for undergraduate students.

The protest, which began with a sit-in on Friday at the college campus, continues as students insist on exclusive hostel space for their undergraduate peers.
