Nizam Club exposed for critical food safety violations in Saifabad

Nizam Club Faces Food Safety Violations

Hyderabad: A task force from the Telangana Commissioner of Food Safety conducted inspections on September 24, 2024, in the Saifabad and Abids areas, uncovering multiple food safety violations at local establishments.

Nizam Club, Saifabad

During the inspection at the Nizam Club, food safety officials found that the food business operator (FBO) was operating without a valid FSSAI license. Critical deficiencies were noted, including the absence of Medical Fitness Certificates for food handlers, Pest Control Records, and water analysis reports for the reverse osmosis (RO) water used in food preparation.

A significant concern was a live cockroach infestation observed in the kitchen. Additionally, water seepage was detected from the ceiling directly above the grinding area. Broken refrigerator doors and rusted joints were also found, with food articles stored but not properly labelled. Clogged drains and water stagnation were reported as well.

The inspection revealed the use of synthetic food colours in Chinese dishes, leading to their immediate disposal. Furthermore, cosmetic rose water was discovered in the storage area and was suspected of being used in pudding preparation, prompting instructions to use only food-grade rose water. Beetle infestations were also noted in wheat flour and urad dal stored in the storeroom, and several dustbins were found open without proper lids.

Fateh Maidan Club, LB Stadium, Abids

At the Fateh Maidan Club, officials observed that the FBO had not displayed a true copy of the FSSAI license at a prominent location. Food handlers in the kitchen were not wearing hair caps, aprons, or gloves. Similar to the Nizam Club, Medical Fitness Certificates for food handlers and water analysis reports for RO water was absent, although Pest Control Records were available.

The facility also showed signs of neglect, with open windows lacking insect-proof screens, greasy walls, and uneven floors due to broken tiles. Semi-prepared food items in the refrigerator were found uncovered and improperly labelled. Dustbins were again noted to be open without adequate lids.

The task force has taken immediate action to ensure compliance with food safety standards and protect public health.
