HYDERABAD: BJP leader Nitin Nabin on February 4 alleged that Telangana politics had reached a “serious turning point”, accusing the Congress government led by chief minister Revanth Reddy of pursuing appeasement politics.

Allegations of appeasement, attacks on traditions

Addressing a “Vijaya Sankalp Sammelan” at Mahabubnagar, Nitin Nabin said the Congress had insulted Telugu culture and traditions, attacked Sanatana Dharma and raised slogans such as “Congress means Muslims and Muslims means Congress” to polarise voters. He said such politics showed the party’s willingness to “stoop to any level” to appease one section of society for electoral gains.

The BJP leader expressed concern over what he described as attacks on Hindu temples and alleged encroachment of temple lands, claiming the state government had remained silent. He also criticised restrictions on Hindu festivals and called upon people to prevent a repeat of violence like the incidents at Changicherla and the Mutyalamma temple.

Charges over guarantees and corruption

Nitin Nabin accused the Congress of failing to implement its election guarantees, including ₹2,500 monthly assistance, one tola of gold and ₹1 lakh under the Kalyan Lakshmi scheme. He said promises of ₹15,000 per acre under Rythu Bharosa and ₹12,000 assistance for farm labourers also remained unfulfilled.

He further alleged cuts in welfare funds meant for Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes, accusing the government of deceiving marginalised communities. Drawing a comparison with the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi regime, he claimed that the present government was collecting “RR Tax” in the name of commissions, alleging even small contractors had to pay for clearance of bills and development works.

Pitch for BJP, Modi-led development

Highlighting the Centre’s vision for Telangana, Nitin Nabin referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development agenda, including proposed high-speed rail corridors linking Hyderabad with Pune, Bengaluru and Chennai, besides pharma hubs, mega textile parks and industrial corridors.

Stating that the BJP had secured over 35% vote share in previous elections, he urged party workers to target 50% votes at every booth in the coming polls. Citing BJP victories in Maharashtra, Bihar and Haryana, he said public trust in Modi’s leadership was growing and called on workers to take the party’s message and welfare schemes to every household.

“Justice in Telangana is possible only through the BJP,” he said, urging party cadres to work towards victories from local body elections to Parliament as part of the party’s resolve for a developed Telangana.
