Iraq oil camp fire after drone strike where Telangana worker was employed

NIRMAL : Rising conflict in West Asia has left Telangana workers in Gulf countries in distress as many struggle to return home.

Hanumandla, a resident of Kuntala in Nirmal district, has been working as a manager for 14 years at a service provider oil company camp in Iraq near the Iran-Kuwait border. Around 400 Indian workers were employed at the camp along with him.

Indian workers evacuated in phases

Amid intensifying conflict, officials from the Indian Embassy facilitated the return of workers in eight phases from March 1. The workers travelled by road for four days after obtaining Turkiye visas and reached an international airport there before flying back to India.

Hanumandla returned to his native village Kuntala four days ago and reunited with his family.

Drone attack strikes oil facility

Soon after his return, a drone attack hit the oil company camp where he worked, triggering a fire. He said the facility was engulfed in flames.

He added that returning to India had saved his life.
