HYDERABAD: Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) director Dr Rahul Devraj has suspended Additional Medical Superintendent and Additional Professor Dr Nori Lakshmi Bhaskar following his arrest by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in a disproportionate assets case.

Suspension follows 48-hour detention

The suspension order, issued on September 28, 2026, said the ACB arrested Bhaskar at 6.30 pm on September 22.

The ACB later informed NIMS that Bhaskar remained in custody for more than 48 hours.

Under Rule 8(2)(a) of the Telangana State Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1991, a government employee who remains in custody for more than 48 hours is deemed to be under suspension from the date of detention.

Government directs NIMS to take action

The Health, Medical and Family Welfare (VC) Department issued a memo to the NIMS director on September 26.

The department directed NIMS to place Bhaskar under deemed suspension from the date of his detention, if the institute had not already done so.

The suspension order referred to the ACB radio messages, the detention period, the service rules and the government directions.

Subsistence allowance during suspension

Bhaskar will remain under suspension until further orders, according to the NIMS order.

He will receive a subsistence allowance as per the applicable rules.

The order also cited Section 18(2)(c) of the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences Act, 1989. The provision gives the NIMS director responsibility for issuing instructions and maintaining discipline at the institute.
