Nia Notices Telangana

HYDERABAD: The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) case against Gade Innayya has led to notices being issued to several activists, writers, and civil society members across Telangana.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has registered a case against Gade Innayya, also known as Inna Reddy, 64, general secretary of Bharat Bachao organisation. The issuance of notices to a large number of individuals has triggered concern.

Inquiry targets writers, rights leaders, civil activists

Sources said notices were served to Sahitya Akademi awardee Nandini Sidda Reddy, civil rights leader Gaddam Laxman, former Telangana Non-Gazetted Officers’ Union leader Devi Prasad, Ravichander and others.

Some, including Sidda Reddy, were questioned at their residences. Others are appearing before the NIA office in Madhapur in batches.

Questions focus on links with Gade Innayya activities

Investigators are reportedly asking about their links with Innayya, involvement in Bharat Bachao activities, and funding sources for an orphanage run by him in Zaffergadh in Jangaon district.

Case tied to Maoist leader’s funeral meeting speech

The case stems from a meeting held during the funeral of Maoist central committee member Katta Ramachandra Reddy alias Vikal, who was killed in an encounter in September. The funeral took place in his native village Theegalakunta Palli in Siddipet district.

The NIA alleges that Innayya, who addressed the gathering, encouraged support for the Maoist party and incited the crowd towards unlawful activities and continuation of armed struggle.

Based on these allegations, the agency registered a case and arrested him. Those who attended the meeting and others are now being questioned.
