NIA raids Hyderabad in ISIS-linked terror case
HYDERABAD: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at multiple locations across the country on Wednesday in connection with an alleged ISIS-linked online radicalisation case.
The case was initially registered by Vijayawada police in March this year over attempts to spread extremist ideology under the banner of Al Maalik Islamic Youth.
Raids across 10 states
The NIA, which took over the investigation in May, carried out searches at 20 locations across 10 states, including Hyderabad and Vijayawada, after identifying a wider network.
Searches in Hyderabad covered the residence of Saida Begum (38) in Chanchalguda and another location.
Woman accused arrested
Investigators alleged that Saida Begum maintained links with members of the extremist network and played a role in activities carried out through a women’s wing known as ‘Khawateen’, which was allegedly created by foreign handlers to recruit and involve women in jihadist activities.
The NIA said it seized several pieces of evidence during the searches. The agency is continuing its investigation into the alleged network.
