NIA arrests Telangana activist Gade Innaiah Reddy for alleged pro-Maoist speech

HYDERABAD: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Telangana-based activist Gade Innaiah Reddy for allegedly making a speech supporting the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) at a funeral gathering in 2005, officials said.
Arrest follows NIA takeover of case
The arrest was made on December 21, 2025, at 11.00 IST from Man Illu Prajadharana Ashramam in Regadi Thanda village of Jangaon district. Reddy, 64, was taken into custody by the NIA’s Hyderabad branch following the registration of a case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
Case linked to YouTube video of speech
According to the FIR, the Central government received credible information about a speech delivered by Reddy during the funeral of Kotha Ramachandra Reddy alias Vikalp, a Central Committee member of CPI (Maoist). The gathering was organised by Amarula Bandhu Mitrula Sangham, described by the agency as a frontal organisation of the banned outfit.
Investigators stated that the speech, attended by around 150–200 people, accused the Government of India and security forces of killing the Maoist leader in a fake encounter and allegedly called for continuing the Maoist movement. The speech was later uploaded on YouTube on a Telugu channel, Mana Thali Velugu TV, in an 18-minute, 40-second video clip.
Charges under UAPA, BNS
The NIA alleged that the speech was intended to propagate the ideology of CPI (Maoist), encourage support for the banned organisation and incite unlawful activities, thereby endangering the security and integrity of India. The case was initially registered following a Ministry of Home Affairs order dated November 24, 2025, directing the NIA to take over the investigation considering the gravity and national security implications.
Reddy has been booked under Sections 13 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Kaki Rahul Teja, Deputy Superintendent of Police, NIA, Hyderabad, is the chief investigating officer in the case.
