NHAI team studies Mannanur-Srisailam elevated corridor
NAGARKURNOOL: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials and two technical experts from the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) visited Amrabad Tiger Reserve on Wednesday for a preliminary technical assessment of the proposed elevated corridor between Mannanur and Srisailam.
A meeting was held at Domalapenta as part of the visit. The Nagarkurnool district forest officer, field-level officials of Amrabad Tiger Reserve and forest staff took part.
Survey to assess wildlife, forest land impact
Officials discussed conducting a preliminary survey along the proposed elevated corridor alignment based on initial approvals from the headquarters.
The exercise will examine the potential impact of the proposed structure on wildlife and their habitats. It will also assess the extent of forest land that may have to be diverted for the project.
The meeting discussed the need for a scientific study of the possible impact of the corridor during and after construction on wildlife movement, habitats, biodiversity and the ecosystem.
Final decision only after detailed studies
Officials said the visit was confined to a preliminary technical examination and feasibility assessment.
Further decisions on the proposed corridor will be taken only after comprehensive technical studies, scientific analyses, environmental and wildlife impact assessments and a detailed examination of the forest land requirement are completed.
Officials said no final decision had been taken on the corridor. Further action on the proposal will be initiated only after all relevant technical, environmental and wildlife conservation aspects are comprehensively examined.
