Newly Wed Bride Ends Her Life In Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A 20-year-old newly-wed bride allegedly took her own life within a month of her marriage in Hyderabad.

Vijaya Gowri, a third-year BTech student, was found hanging at her home in BalReddy Nagar, under the jurisdiction of Balanagar police station, on the night of March 7, 2025.

Vijaya Gowri married 24-year-old Eswara Rao on February 6, 2025. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death. Police suspect that she ended her life due to an unwelcome marriage.

A case has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing.

In a separate incident, a 35-year-old female software engineer allegedly took her own life due to a family dispute and her husband’s harassment for more dowry at her residence in Prashanthi Hills within the limits of the Raidurgam police station in Hyderabad on March 3, 2025.

The deceased, Devika, and her husband Satish, both software engineers, married six months ago in Goa. Devika was found hanging from a ceiling fan late on Sunday night. Her husband, Sadgurthi Satish Chandra, found her dead around 10 am on Monday and subsequently informed the police and her family members.

According to reports, Devika, a native of Kamalapuram in the Vikarabad district, completed her MBA in Pune and moved to Hyderabad after she got a job at a software company in the city. At the office, she met coworker Satish, a native of Mancherial. Their friendship blossomed into love, and after convincing their families, they married in a grand ceremony in Goa on August 23 last year.

The couple had been disagreeing for the past few months and frequently quarreled on various issues. On Sunday night, at around 11 p.m., a heated altercation took place between Devika and Satish. After the argument, Devika locked herself inside her room, and her husband, believing she had gone to sleep, stepped out of the house and returned past midnight.

Upon his return, he found Devika’s room still locked. Assuming she was asleep, he went to bed in another room. Satish informed the maidservant the following day when she failed to respond to repeated knocks on her door. She also tried to wake her up, but there was no response. He forcefully broke open the door and found Devika hanging from the ceiling fan.

Meanwhile, Devika’s mother has lodged a complaint with the Raidurgam police, alleging that her daughter took this extreme step because of the persistent demand for additional dowry. The police have registered a case, and an investigation is underway.
