Citizens raises public safety concerns over dark stretch on Neknampur to Golconda road

HYDERABAD: In a joint representation to municipal authorities,NGO The Citizens Council (TCC) has raised concerns about a significant public safety hazard on the 100-feet road connecting Neknampur to Golconda Road. The Citizens Council reports that street lighting has been nonfunctional along this stretch for the past two to three months, posing a serious risk to commuters and residents.
The representation, addressed to senior officials including the Special Officer of the MAUD Department, the Commissioner of the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, and the GHMC Electrical Maintenance Wing, states that the prolonged lack of lighting has made this major road accident-prone.
The Citizens Council, led by General Secretary Shaik Aarif Mohammed, outlined several dangers resulting from inadequate lighting. βThis road serves as a major arterial connectivity corridor with heavy vehicular movement, pedestrian usage, and daily commuter traffic,β said Aarif. He further added that speed breakers become difficult to see after sunset, increasing risks for two-wheelers, emergency vehicles, and public transport.
Beyond the risk of accidents, Aarif points to rising fears for personal safety, particularly among women, senior citizens, and those who must walk after dark. They call this a clear failure in civic service, citing gaps in maintenance oversight and complaint resolution.
The Citizens Council is seeking long-term solutions rather than temporary fixes. In their representation, they recommend systemic reforms to prevent future hazards. Their suggestions include implementing time-bound complaint redressal, conducting regular night inspections of major roads, strengthening field-level accountability, adopting preventive maintenance schedules, and installing reflective markings on speed breakers for improved visibility.

βWe sincerely appreciate the proactive governance and administrative experience of the municipal leadership and believe that, under your guidance, this issue can be resolved promptly,β added Aarif, urging authorities to address the matter urgently in the public interest.
The council is calling for the street lights to be switched back on without delay, a thorough review of road safety measures, and an internal audit to prevent similar issues in the future. Residents are counting on this plea to spark quick action and bring safety back to the 100-feet road.
