Congress leader Neelam Madhu Mudiraj booked over alleged buffalo sacrifice in Chitkul
HYDERABAD: Congress leader Neelam Madhu Mudiraj was booked by the Patancheru Police following a complaint regarding the alleged sacrifice of a buffalo sacrifice at Chitkul village. The incident was caught on video and widely shared on social media, which made animal rights activists very upset.
The complaint was filed on August 7, 2026, by Adulapuram Goutham, a Cruelty Prevention Manager at the Stray Animal Foundation of India (NGO) who lives in Karimnagar. According to the complaint, the sacrifice happened at Chitkul village on August 5, 2026.
The incident was recorded and videos were uploaded to social media, which caused concern. In particular, the videos were reportedly posted on the Instagram accounts and also on Neelam Madhu Mudiraj’s Instagram account “Neelam_maaddhu_mudiraaj.” He allegedly organized the event.
The complainant said that on August 6, 2026, at around 3:00 PM, he and an animal rescuer named Prathibha Bharathi visited Chitkul village and confirmed that the buffalo had been sacrificed. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with killing animals. N. Raju, Sub-Inspector of Police, is handling the investigation.
The case has drawn attention to animal sacrifice and how social media spreads such content. Consequently, animal rights activists welcomed the FIR and have asked for strict action against those involved and those promoting the act online.
The investigation is ongoing to find out more details and identify everyone involved. Neelam Madhu Mudiraj contested as the Congress candidate for Medak MP in 2024 but lost to Rangunandha Rao of the BJP.
