NCW inquiry team visits Medaram Jatara area in Mulugu district

HYDERABAD: The National Commission for Women inquiry committee has found that no gang rape of a minor took place during the Medaram Jatara, based on its preliminary assessment.

Committee visits Mulugu, meets officials

The commission constituted an inquiry committee after allegations surfaced about a gang rape of a minor at the jatra. The panel, led by NCW member Delina with Kanchan Kattar, reached Mulugu district on Wednesday afternoon.

At the Mulugu Collectorate, the team met District Collector Divakar and Superintendent of Police Ramnath Kekan. The committee later inspected the area around the jatra where the incident was alleged to have occurred.

Preliminary finding rules out incident

After the inspection, the committee said it had prima facie found that no gang rape incident occurred at the Medaram Jatara.

Final report after police submission

The inquiry team said it would submit its final report to the NCW after receiving a written report from the police.
