NCW holds public hearing in Hyderabad, resolves 30 cases

Hyderabad: Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), Vijaya Rahatkar, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to addressing the concerns of women across the country during a public hearing held in Hyderabad on Monday, April 28, 2025.

Participating in the Mahila Jan Sunwai at the Hyderabad Tourism Plaza Samagam Hall, Rahatkar said the Commission received around 60 petitions from women seeking redressal for various issues.

“The Commission is committed to supporting women facing hardship. Our aim is to reach out directly to victims and ensure timely resolution of their cases,” she said.

Vijaya Rahatkar noted that the NCW has been receiving thousands of petitions from across India, dealing with matters including domestic violence, cybercrime, online harassment, child custody, sexual harassment, and rape. She highlighted that over 30 cases reported in Hyderabad between 2022 and 2024 have already been resolved.

She urged district officials to handle women-related cases with urgency and avoid any negligence. She also directed police officers to submit prompt reports on pending cases.

Highlighting regular engagement, Vijaya Rahatkar said the Commission visits victims in various states up to four times a month to ensure timely justice.

The event was attended by Telangana State Women’s Commission Chairperson Sharada Nerella, Women and Child Welfare Department Director Kranti Wesley, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes) Vishwaprasad, Additional Collector G. Mukunda Reddy, DCP Lavanya, and officials from the Women and Child Welfare, BC Welfare, and Senior Citizens Welfare departments.

Families of affected women, representatives from women’s organizations, and support staff also attended the hearing.
