Floods: Movement banned on Hyderabad-Vijayawada National highway

Hyderabad : In view of the heavy rains in the Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the movement on the national Highway in between Hyderabad and Vijayawada has been temporarily halted by the Andhra Pradesh Police.The Kodada DSP, Mamilla Sridhar Reddy informed that the vehicle movement now remains restricted until the road is cleared of flood water. It was further informed that after monitoring the situation on September 2, 2024, i., on Monday, the clearance would be given to the vehicles.
The DSP informed that with the overflowing of Paleru Vaagu onto the national highway at the Kodad Mandal in NallabandaGudem near Ramapuram X road as one of the reasons for this decsion.
Meanwhile, the water bodies passing through the highway including the Munneru Kattaleru breaching in some parts, the national Highway is flooded with rainwater. With this the traffic movement was halted for hours during the day and finally the police have officially banned the vehicular movement for the whole highway, in order to avoid any untowards incident.
Which road should be taken?
Further, those who are traveling to Vijayawada, Khammam, the Nalgonda SP Saradh Chandra informed of certain key diversions. “For those who are traveling to Vijayawada, they should take a diversion at Narketpally and should go through Guntur, and should take a diversion at Nagarikel to go to Khammam and go via Arvapalli and Maripeda Bangla.
Earlier, the Telangana police have also informed that they are suspending the vehicular movement to Khammam and Vijayawada via Suryapet, with the extremely heavy rains, causing rivers and water bodies to overflow. This was informed by the Suryapet SP, Sanpreet Singh.

The two Telugu speaking states are reeling under heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several parts of the city. The rains have left numerous water bodies, including rivers, lakes and others overflowing with rain water and caused floods in several parts.
