Lack of U-turns on Hayathnagar-Auto Nagar stretch frustrates commuters

Listen to Story

Hyderabad: The ongoing National Highway 65 widening project has turned the daily commute into a nightmare for motorists in Hyderabad. The expansion work on the national highway, which connects Hyderabad and Vijayawada, has been going at snail’s pace.

For over a year, motorists and other road users from Hayathnagar and Auto Nagar have been facing difficulties on the affected stretch. There are dozens of colonies on both sides of this stretch and thousands of travellers face hardships due to ongoing road widening works.

The entire stretch has only two U-turns for road users. Motorists have to travel three kilometers to take a U-turn. With one U-turn available near Hayathnagar Police Station and another at Auto Nagar, people exclaimed that the lack of extra U-turns has only added to their travel time.

They said initially, there were four U-turns on the Hayathnagar-Auto Nagar stretch. However, after the commencement of road works, the contractors removed two of them, one at Vinayak Nagar petrol station and the other at High Court colony, forcing motorists to cover extra distance.
