Jashn-E-Sainma at OU: Celebrating Short Films and Cinematic Excellence
As part of the festival, an engaging workshop was conducted on sound design and sync sound. The workshop, organised by Indie filmmakers Sasi Camp, Rohit Penumatsa and sound designer Swapnil Rao, discussed methods to improve the quality of films. Senior filmmakers shared their experiences. With the theatre culture vanishing in Telugu land, there is a dearth of good actors, felt Sasi. He suggested that budding directors invest more in quality of sound rather than costumes and actors. Swapnil suggested that Plural Eyes software and Dolby app would deliver good quality of sound. Sound syncing would be more effective if the actors are excellent at dialogue delivery.
Speakers at the panel discussion on ‘Breaking Boundaries: Role of Women in Cinema’ recounted their struggles and challenges in breaking the stereotypes. Men in the film industry are not used to women working along with them and they are still learning to adjust with the entrants. They felt that women can confidently enter the field now as they are being valued for their skills. Sajida Khan, Uma Pemmasani and others were among the panellists.
The cultural performances by students from various colleges enthralled the audience. Perini Nrityam by the department of language and culture commanded special attention of the viewers.
All the selected short films were screened.
