National Deworming Day begins, visit nearest Anganwadis for deworming your child
Hyderabad: Telangana State Health and Family Welfare department is conducting National Deworming Day (NDD) day on Thursday. The department aims to administer the dosage to 11.77 lakhs children in Hyderabad. Telangana state Health minister C Damodar Raja Narasimha and Minister Ponnam Prabhakar flag off the deworming program at Raj Bhavan School.
Why are deworming tablets necessary?
The advantages of deworming include “Reduction in Anemia and associated worm related morbidities, Soil Transmitted Helminth infections are reduced/eliminated,Children are more energetic and active,Reduction in school absenteeism and Improvement in work performance and efficacy.”
As deworming tablets, albendazole tablets will be administered to all children aged 1-19 years through a uniform platform i.e., Aanganwadis, Schools & Colleges by a fixed-day approach. This uniform administration of Albendazole Tablets on one single day will enable to eliminate/wipe out all soil transmitted Helminths, infections in the vulnerable age group of children, said Department of Health & Family Welfare officials in a statement.
The Department of Health & Family Welfare conducts the programme in coordination and support of the Departments of Education, WD&CW and other line departments.
How to consume deworming tablets?
The Anganwadi teachers or the incharges would help you in administering the tablets to your child. But as a parent, one should note that the tablet has to be crushed and chewed as per age specific dosage to enable effective absorption. After chewing the tablet, one should swallow with 2-3 gulps of water. Further, tablets should NOT be given for administration at home.
Targets to give deworming tablet for 11.77 lakhs children in Hyderabad
Ponnam Prabhakar, Minister in charge of Hyderabad said, “We are conducting deworming day under the auspices of the central and state governments in Telangana. Deworming tablets are very useful for the physical growth of children. The government aims to administer the tablets to 11.77 lakhs children in Hyderabad through this deworming program. Children up to 19 years of age are given this medicine. These tablets should be taken for proper physical growth. Parents are requested to give these tablets to their children”.
What if I missed the tablet today?
If you miss the dosage on Thursday, don’t worry, Health officials are arranging a Mop Up Day (MUD) on 27th June 2024 in all the 33 districts of the State. A Mop Up Day (MUD) is conducted one week after the main NDD day to reach out to the left out and missed children.
