Narsingi cattle fair sees Gujjar buffalo sold at ₹3.11 lakh

NARSINGI: Gujjar breed buffaloes fetched record prices at the Pasu Sankranti cattle fair held at the Narsingi agricultural market on Friday, with each animal selling for ₹3.11 lakh.
For the first time, a record 11 buffaloes were sold at the same price, organisers said. Although cattle arrived in large numbers from several states, the market remained subdued due to the economic slowdown. Prices, however, showed no decline.
Record sale despite sluggish market
Local farmers Satish Reddy and Ravinder Reddy sold their Gujjar-breed buffalo to Raji Reddy of Bowrampet for ₹3.11 lakh. Last year, a Dhulia-breed buffalo was sold for ₹2.7 lakh. This year’s Gujjar buffalo surpassed that figure, creating a new record at the fair.
High milk yield draws buyers
The Gujjar buffalo yields 10 litres of milk in the morning and another 10 litres in the evening, continuing consistently for six months, Satish Reddy said.
Dhulia breed buffaloes were sold for prices ranging from ₹1.5 lakh to over ₹2 lakh. Buyers showed strong demand for Dhulia, Gujjar, Haryana, Solapur and Murrah breeds.
Cattle prices remain firm
Punganur cows and cows brought from Gujarat were sold for prices ranging between ₹70,000 and ₹1.5 lakh, traders said.
