Medipally police book Narla Sumanth in assault case
HYDERABAD: Medipally police registered a Zero First Information Report (FIR) against former Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to minister Konda Surekha, Narla Sumanth, and five others following a complaint by a 36-year-old real estate businessman alleging that he was assaulted with iron rods and sticks.
According to the complaint, Gongidi Harikrishna, a businessman from Boduppal, alleged that Sumanth called him on July 30 and asked him to meet urgently. Harikrishna said he later received a call from his friend Ramu and went to Ramu’s office at about 9.45pm on August 20 along with Kiran.
The complaint states that Sumanth and Ramu were present at the office. Sumanth allegedly questioned Harikrishna over collecting money by using his name. After Harikrishna denied the allegation, Sumanth allegedly abused him and assaulted him with an iron rod on his hands and legs.
Complainant alleges attack by Sumanth’s associates
Harikrishna further alleged that Sumanth’s friends arrived at the spot and that Sumanth instigated them to kill him. The complaint names the alleged associates as Prashanth, Arun Kumar Reddy, Karthik and Mahender Reddy, besides others.
The complainant alleged that the group assaulted him and threatened him with serious consequences if he disclosed the incident. He said he suffered a fracture to his left hand, bleeding injuries and vomiting of blood.
According to the complaint, two police constables reached the spot and shifted Harikrishna to Jubilee Hills Police Station. He later left the station, saying he would return after receiving medical treatment.
Complaint cites treatment and delay in filing case
Harikrishna said he first went to Gandhi Hospital and subsequently received treatment at SVS Hospital in Chengicherla. He was later shifted to Sri Health Care Hospital in Uppal, where he underwent surgery on August 10, according to the complaint.
He attributed the delay in lodging the complaint to his treatment and fear of the accused persons.
The complaint names Sumanth as A1, Prashanth as A2, Arun Kumar Reddy as A3, Karthik as A4, Mahender Reddy as A5 and Ramu as A6. It alleges that they acted together and assaulted him with sticks and iron rods with an intention to kill him.
Based on the complaint, Sub-Inspector D Yakanna of Medipally police station registered Zero FIR No. 03/2026 under Section 109 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The case file was subsequently transferred to Jubilee Hills police station on jurisdictional grounds.
The FIR records the offence as having been registered and the investigation taken up.
