Narayanaguda Police Solve House Theft in 36 Hours
Hyderabad : The Narayanaguda police arrested a 19-year-old carpenter and recovered the entire ₹7.70 lakh allegedly stolen in a house theft case within 36 hours of the complaint being lodged.
According to police, the accused, Deepesh Khati, a resident of Old Bowenpally, Secunderabad, originally from Katarada village in Jodhpur district of Rajasthan, was arrested on Friday. Police recovered the entire stolen cash from his room in Bowenpally.
Cash allegedly stolen during house renovation
Police said complainant Amit Agarwal lodged a complaint at Narayanaguda police station on July 1, 2026.
Agarwal told police that renovation work had been underway at his residence since December 2025. He had kept ₹7,70,000, mostly in ₹500 currency notes, inside his wife’s handbags, which were stored in a wooden cupboard in the first-floor bedroom.
On June 30, his wife checked the bags at about 9.30 am and found the cash intact. She later went for a walk at about 5.30 pm after leaving the bedroom unlocked while workers were carrying out renovation work across the house.
When she returned an hour later, she noticed nothing unusual. However, at about 9.30 pm, the family found the cash missing from the handbags. After searching the house without success, the complainant suspected that one of the workers had stolen the money and approached the police.

CCTV footage, technical evidence lead to arrest
Police said the Narayanaguda crime team immediately began the investigation by examining CCTV footage, analysing technical evidence and questioning all workers engaged at the house.
Based on technical surveillance, police apprehended Deepesh Khati at about 10.20 am on July 3, 2026. During the operation, officers recovered the entire ₹7,70,000 allegedly stolen in the case.
The case was solved under the supervision of Sultan Bazar Division Assistant Commissioner of Police M. Mattaiah. The investigation was led by Narayanaguda Detective Inspector B. Abhilash, Sub-Inspector Ch. Nagaraju and the crime team.
