Telangana Maoist Leader Narahari Surrenders Before DGP

HYDERABAD: Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand is expected to reveal details at a media conference on Tuesday regarding the reported surrender of Maoist Central Committee member Narahari and his wife.
Narahari, who belongs to Telangana, and his wife, who is from Jharkhand, had been the subject of speculation over a possible surrender for several weeks. According to information available, the couple has now surrendered before the Telangana DGP.
Central Committee strength shrinks further
The reported surrender marks another setback for the Maoist leadership. Several senior leaders have been killed in encounters in recent years, while many others have surrendered.
At present, Narahari, Vartha Shekhar alias Mangtu and senior Maoist leader Ganapathi alias Muppala Lakshmana Rao were among the Central Committee leaders believed to be underground.
Only a handful of leaders remain underground
With Narahari’s reported surrender, Vartha Shekhar is likely to be the only active Central Committee leader still playing a significant operational role.
Uncertainty continues over the status of Ganapathi, who led the Maoist movement for decades. However, sources indicate that his prolonged health issues have reduced his active role in the organisation.
