Natural Star Nani wins IIFA Award for best actor for Dasara

Hyderabad: Nani, known as the Natural Star, has won the International Indian Film Academy Award (IIFA) for Best Actor in Telugu for his role in the film Dasara. This adds to his accolades, which include the Filmfare Award and the South Indian International Movie Award (SIIMA) for the same performance.

Producer Sudhakar Cherukuri also received the Best Film award at IIFA events for Dasara.

Dasara is a 2023 Indian Telugu-language period action film directed by Srikanth Odela and produced by Sudhakar Cherukuri. The film features a talented ensemble cast, including Nani, Keerthy Suresh, Dheekshith Shetty, Shine Tom Chacko, Samuthirakani, P. Sai Kumar, and Shamna Kasim. This film marks Odela’s directorial debut and Chacko’s acting debut in Telugu cinema. The soundtrack and background score were composed by Santhosh Narayanan, while Sathyan Sooryan and Naveen Nooli handled the cinematography and editing.

The film was announced in October 2021, with principal photography commencing in March 2022 and concluding in January 2023. Set against the backdrop of the Singareni Coal Mines in Veerlapalli village, near Godavarikhani and Ramagundam cities of Telangana, Dasara was released on March 30, 2023. It received positive reviews from critics and emerged as a commercial success, grossing over Rs. 117.50 crore worldwide.

The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards 2024 is a grand celebration of Indian cinema that will take place from Friday to Sunday on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The awards function commenced with IIFA Utsavam, a celebration of the Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada film industries.

Many celebrities attended the 2024 IIFA Utsavam Awards in Abu Dhabi, including Chiranjeevi, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Nani, Rana Daggubati, Venkatesh Daggubati, Mani Ratnam, Allu Aravind, Keerthy Suresh, and others. Bollywood stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Aishwarya Rai, Ananya Panday, Karan Johar, Kriti Sanon, Javed Akhtar, and Shabana Azmi were also present.

Performers at the IIFA Utsavam included Teja Sajja, Akul Balaji, Vijay Raghavendra, Sathish, Diya Menon, Sudev Nair, Pearle Maaney, Rockstar DSP, Shane Nigam, Raashii Khanna, Pragya Jaiswal, Malashri, Aradhana Ram, and Regina Cassandra.

The IIFA Awards honour films from the previous year and are held at various locations around the world. The first IIFA Awards were presented in 2000 at The Millennium Dome in London.
