TELANGANA: A bear attacked nine farmers in a village in Maharashtra near the Telangana border, killing one and injuring eight others.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night in Dayal Dhanora village of Kinwat taluka in Nanded district, about 7 km from Nigini village in Both mandal.

Datta Baliram Jadhav, 55, had gone to irrigate his maize field around 11 pm when the bear attacked him. Hearing his cries, other farmers rushed to help, but the animal attacked them as well.

Jadhav died on the spot.

Among the injured, Ramesh Baliram Jadhav, Shankar Tanaji Jadhav, Sudarshan Datta Pawar and Chandrasingh Shesharao Rathod sustained serious injuries. They were shifted to the Government Hospital in Nanded for treatment. Chandrasingh, whose condition worsened, was later referred to a hospital in Aurangabad for advanced care.

Pandit Jaisingh Jadhav, Vinod Shesharao Rathod, Arvind Shesharao Jadhav and Sanjay Datta Jadhav sustained minor injuries and were treated at the primary health centre in Shivini.
