Nandamuri Balakrishna, Dr Nageshwar Reddy receive Padma awards

New Delhi: Tollywood actor Nandamuri Balakrishna received the prestigious Padma Bhushan award for his contributions in the field of art.
President Droupadi Murmu gave the awards to the legendary Telugu actor and Andhra Pradesh MLA Balakrishna at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday.
Balakrishna has been honoured with one of India’s top civilian awards for his exceptional work in the film industry. Known for his work in Telugu cinema, Balakrishna has starred in over 100 films and has achieved significant commercial success with roles in films like Simha (2010), Legend (2014), and Akhanda (2021). Incidentally, the actor recently completed 50 years in cinema.
On the work front, Balakrishna is busy with a sequel to his hit film Akhanda, directed by Boyapati Srinu. In the sequel, audience will see the actor continue playing two roles, a fierce spiritual warrior (aghora) and a village leader. The filmmakers are in talks to rope in Samyuktha and Aadhi Pinisetty.
Balakrishna is also a member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, representing the Hindupur constituency.

Renowned gastroenterologist and Chairman of Asian Institute of Gastroenterology and AIG Hospitals Dr D Nageshwar Reddy from Telangana was conferred with the Padma Vibhushan award. He is known for revolutionising the field of therapeutic endoscopy, transforming thousands of lives across the globe.
Reddy played a huge role in making India a hub for world-class Gl Endoscopy services. He has helped in bridging rural-urban healthcare divide, deploying India’s first mobile endoscopy units and screening programs that bring life-saving diagnostics to underserved communities.
The awards were given to a total of 71 notable personalities at Rashtrapati Bhavan’s majestic Durbar Hall. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the awards ceremony.
Padma Awards are presented in three categories: Padma Vibhushan for exceptional service, Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of a higher order, and Padma Shri for distinguished service in various fields such as art, social work, public affairs, science, engineering, medicine, literature, education, sports, and civil service.
