Mahabubnagar Woman Doctor Wins National Gold
MAHABUBNAGAR: “Patients with different health problems used to visit my father’s medical shop. Seeing their struggles moved him, and he wanted to see me become a doctor. I was determined to fulfil his dream and put everything else on hold to achieve that goal. Now, after reaching it, I feel immense happiness,” said Bhargavi from Nancherla village in Mohammadabad mandal of Mahabubnagar district.
From village student to doctor
Bhargavi said her family shifted to Mahabubnagar town on rent because educational facilities in her village were inadequate. Her grandmother was brought from Shadnagar to stay with the family and support her studies.
She completed Intermediate education in Hyderabad and secured a free MBBS seat at SVS Medical College in Mahabubnagar through the entrance examination. She continued living with her grandmother while pursuing the course.
National recognition in postgraduate studies
After completing MBBS, she secured admission to the Diploma in Gynaecology and Obstetrics (DGO) programme at the Government General Hospital in Rajamahendravaram, Andhra Pradesh, after performing well in the entrance examination.
She got married within days of joining the course. After two years of training, she appeared for the final examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) and secured a national-level rank. She recently received a gold medal in New Delhi.
Bhargavi said receiving the medal, degree certificate and commendation from AIG chairman Nageswara Reddy was a memorable moment.
Family support helps achieve goal
“Even after marriage, we decided not to have children until I completed my postgraduate medical education. In the process of pursuing my goal, I missed spending time with family. With encouragement from my parents, husband and friends, I successfully completed DGO,” she said.
Bhargavi is currently pursuing Diplomate of National Board (DNB) training at a private hospital in Hyderabad. Her husband is a cardiologist. The couple now has a daughter.
“I will strive to provide quality healthcare to people,” she added.
