Nanakramguda civic woes: Residents flag road repairs, streetlights, open drains
HYDERABAD: Residents of Nanakramguda, Khajaguda, and surrounding localities have raised serious concerns over multiple civic infrastructure issues. These include civic issues ranging from the construction of public toilets adjacent to residential areas to pending road repairs, dangerous potholes, and a long-standing dumping yard problem that has persisted for four years.
Social activist Balakrishna Devarakonda has asked the authorities to act quickly on several important problems that affect people’s daily lives and safety. One major concern is the building of about 100 public bathrooms and toilets right next to homes in JBM Colony, Nanakramguda, by a labor contractor. Residents say the toilets hurt their quality of life because of the bad smell, spills, and poor cleanliness. They want the toilets moved or properly maintained.
Another problem is the delay in putting up street lights at the entrance of Ratna Deep Lane in JBM Colony, Nanakramguda. The lights have not been installed for three months because they are out of stock. Therefore, residents want the authorities to put up the lights soon to make the area safer and more visible. In addition, road repairs in Nanakramguda have not been finished for two months after a 100-meter stretch was dug up to lay water pipes to Sumadhura Olympus apartments from the Kapil Kavuri business hub. The road is still damaged, making it hard for people to travel.
A big problem that has lasted for four years is the dumping yard at Khajaguda, which still affects people living nearby. Well-known schools like Oakridge and Delhi Public School are right next to the dumping yard. About a year ago, the Zonal Commissioner of Serilingampally promised to solve the problem, but nothing has changed. Residents want a permanent solution.
Furthermore, another problem is that the sports complex in Khajaguda village has not been finished for more than six months. The Khajaguda Municipal Ground is the only main playground in Gachibowli, so people want the authorities to get the work done soon.

Road repairs in Gowliddody village are also a big safety issue. Specifically, residents say that dangerous potholes from SBI to Aparna Shangrila Villas slow down traffic and cause jams. The road was dug up to lay cables and was not fixed properly, so now there are tyre marks and bad pavements.
“Many accidents have happened, especially with two-wheelers. Six months ago, a 22-year-old engineering student died in an accident because of the bad road,” said Balakrishna. In addition, residents also want the open drain in front of Shri Ram School in Nanakramguda to be fixed right away. Moreover, they want roads that were dug up for cable work and roads with many potholes, like from ISB to IIIT Junction, to be repaired fast.
The building of a flyover at IIIT Junction has made the road very narrow for people to pass. There are also many potholes in these narrow areas, causing frequent accidents, especially for two-wheelers. Residents want quick repairs to prevent more deaths. People are frustrated because the civic problems are getting worse and the authorities are not acting fast enough.
