Idol vandalised at Nampally Exhibition Grounds during celebrations

Listen to Story

Nampally: Unidentified individuals vandalised a prominent idol set up at the Nampally exhibition grounds in Hyderabad on October 11, 2024, coinciding with local celebrations.

The idol, installed annually by the Exhibition Society and staff, was allegedly targeted after police presence was reduced following a nearby cultural event.

According to the police reports, the assailants first cut off the electricity supply and disabled the CCTV cameras before damaging the idol, scattering ceremonial items, and removing barricades surrounding the display.

Upon discovering the incident, Abids ACP Chandra Sekhar quickly arrived at the scene. The Begumbazar police have registered a case and are actively investigating the matter. Local organisations and community members have gathered at the site to express their outrage.

Similar acts of vandalism have occurred in the same location previously, so the community members are calling for swift action to apprehend those responsible and ensure they face appropriate consequences.
