Nampally court awards life term to 54-year-old man in POCSO case

Hyderabad: Metropolitan Criminal Court in Nampally handed down a life imprisonment verdict to a man involved in POCSO case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him. The XII additional metropolitan sessions judge, T Anitha, pronounced the verdict on Wednesday.

A 54-year-old Boggula Sailu, a native of Nizamabad district, was arrested by the Bowenpally police after he was accused of raping and impregnating a minor girl in 2020. Following the incident, a case of sexual assault was registered at the Bowenpally police station.

Sailju was booked under the charges of 376(2) (3) (n) (rape on a woman under sixteen years of age), 506 (criminal intimidation) under the Indian Penal Code and 5(l)R/W6 (aggravated penetrative sexual act) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The investigating officer C Anjaiah had probed the allegations and filed a charge sheet before the court.
