NALSAR to host international law conclave on Global North–South relations in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, in collaboration with Heidelberg University, Germany, will host an international law conclave titled “Dialogue of the Hemispheres: Recent Developments in International Law regarding the Relationship of Global South and Global North” from October 15 to 17, 2025, at the NALSAR campus.
The three-day event aims to promote dialogue, research collaboration, and exchange of ideas among scholars, practitioners, and policymakers from both hemispheres, with a focus on strengthening Indo-German academic cooperation.
Academic collaboration and sessions
The conclave will open with a Postdoctoral Symposium featuring collaborative sessions involving postdoctoral researchers and junior professors based in Germany and Indian academics from across the world. Discussions will cover topics such as artificial intelligence regulation, climate change litigation, cross-border surrogacy, corporate law reforms in Europe and India, data protection, and economic sanctions.
Panel discussions will also explore evolving research trends in international law and the interplay between Global North and Global South approaches.
Law professors’ meet and inaugural event
A separate Law Professors Meet will include presentations by leading Indian and German professors on international judicial cooperation, third-world approaches to international law, and conflict of laws in matrimonial cases.
The event is being organised jointly with the German Research Foundation (DFG), Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR), Heidelberg University, and NALSAR University of Law.
The inaugural ceremony on October 15, 2025, will feature a welcome address by Prof Srikrishna Deva Rao, Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR University. Dr Suboor Bakht, Director, Heidelberg University Office for South Asia, will introduce the theme, while Prof Marc-Philippe Weller, Vice-President for International Affairs and Diversity, Heidelberg University, will deliver the keynote address.
Dr Franziska Langer, Director, DFG Office India, and Prof Dhananjay Singh, Member Secretary, ICSSR, will present special addresses. The ceremony will conclude with a vote of thanks by Prof Sitharamam Kakarala of NALSAR University.
