Nallacheruvu, Kukatpally set to open after HYDRAA works

HYDERABAD: Nallacheruvu in Kukatpally is nearing completion under works taken up by Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA). While a few finishing touches remain, the lake is expected to be formally opened soon.
Even before the official launch, the rejuvenated lakefront has begun drawing large crowds. Children, senior citizens and women are visiting the area in big numbers from neighbourhoods within a radius of nearly 5 km, using the lake premises for walking, shuttle badminton and informal play.
Encroachments cleared in September 2024
HYDRAA had carried out a major demolition drive at the same lake in September 2024, removing encroachments as part of the restoration effort. The action had triggered sharp criticism of the agency at the time.
Public sentiment turns favourable
Now, with thousands of residents using the reclaimed lake space daily, public sentiment has shifted. Many visitors are praising HYDRAA for restoring access to the lake and improving the local environment.
