Nalgonda court orders social service for drunk drivers
HYDERABAD: Police in Nalgonda district have intensified enforcement against drunken driving as part of efforts to prevent road accidents and protect lives. During a special vehicle check conducted in Miryalaguda on Tuesday, police booked 36 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol.
All 36 accused were produced before the court on Saturday, July 4, 2026. After hearing the cases, the court imposed appropriate punishments.
Court directs offenders to educate the public on road safety
The court directed 11 of the accused to perform one day of community service by assisting traffic police to create awareness among the public. Acting on the court’s orders, they participated in traffic regulation duties under the supervision of traffic police and educated road users about road safety, adherence to traffic rules and the dangers of drunken driving.
‘No leniency for drunken driving,’ says SP
Nalgonda Superintendent of Police Sharath Chandra Pawar said driving after consuming alcohol is not merely a violation of the law but an irresponsible act that endangers innocent lives.
He said drunken driving claims many lives every year and leaves several others with permanent disabilities due to serious injuries.
The SP warned that there would be no leniency towards offenders. Police will register cases, produce the accused before the court and ensure legal action, including fines, imprisonment, cancellation of driving licences and, wherever necessary, community service as directed by the court.
He urged motorists to think about their families and avoid driving under any circumstances after consuming alcohol. Those who have consumed alcohol should use cabs, auto-rickshaws or other alternative modes of transport and follow traffic rules responsibly.
Sharath Chandra Pawar said special drunken driving checks would be intensified across Nalgonda district to reduce road accidents and that strict action would continue against those violating the law.
