NALGONDA: Organ donation by a rice mill operator saves five lives

TELANGANA: Kasani Ashok, 38, a rice mill operator from Old Gopalapuram village in Kannekal mandal of Nalgonda district, brought hope to five patients through organ donation after being declared brain dead.
Ashok met with an accident on October 21, 2025, when his bike collided with a tractor. He was shifted to a private hospital in Hyderabad, where doctors declared him brain dead at 6.23 am on October 27.
Wife’s decision enables multiple transplants
His wife Renuka consented to donate his liver, two kidneys and two corneas under the Telangana government’s Jeevandan programme. The donation helped five patients in need.
Jeevandan crosses 162 brain-dead donations this year
Officials from Jeevandan Telangana thanked Ashok’s family for their “noble and selfless act”, noting that it marked the 162nd brain-dead donation in the state this year.
The programme, launched to promote awareness and facilitate organ donation, has been instrumental in saving numerous lives across Telangana.
