TELANAGANA: The big cat census will be conducted in the Amrabad Tiger Reserve in Nagar Kurnool district from January 20.

On Sunday, during the census exercise, a forest watcher was attacked by a bear in the Turkapalli forest beat of Amrabad mandal.

The watcher, Uduthunuri Sailu, a resident of Kollam Penta village, sustained minor injuries to his hands and managed to escape.

Ranger Veeresham rushed the injured watcher to the Amrabad government hospital in a forest department vehicle and ensured first aid. The ranger later told reporters over the phone that Sailu suffered an injury to his thumb, there was no further danger, and an anti-rabies vaccine was administered.

The incident occurred even as the forest department was yet to recover from the death of another watcher on January 21, who reportedly collapsed after losing consciousness and died of a heart attack.
