Naga Chaitanya gets Delhi High court relief in personality rights case

HYDERABAD: The Delhi High Court upheld the personality rights of Tollywood actor Naga Chaitanya by granting interim protection in a suit alleging unauthorized use of his name and image on merchandise platforms, AI-generated content, and online videos.
Justice Jyoti Singh heard the matter after Senior Advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, representing the actor, said several websites used Naga Chaitanya’s name with explicit search terms to attract traffic and circulate objectionable content. The Court also viewed unauthorized merchandise listings featuring the actor’s likeness.
Additionally, the suit raised concerns about AI-generated and manipulated content and allegedly defamatory material related to the actor’s personal life circulating online.
In response, the Court took note of the allegations, issued summons to the defendants, and directed them to file responses. The plaintiff also sought a dynamic injunction against recurring infringing websites and URLs.
The Court will consider the matter further after responses are filed and is expected to examine the scope of protection for personality rights against online misuse and unauthorized commercial exploitation.
