SIDDIPET: Stranger gains trust, offers ride, executes theft in outskirts
An unidentified man robbed an elderly woman of her gold chain after gaining her trust and offering a lift near Mustabad outskirts.
According to police and local residents, Ponnala Yadava of Avunoor village had visited her daughter in Lingarajreddypalle village of Siddipet district. On Monday, she was waiting near the Ellamma temple in Siddipet to return home.
A man wearing a helmet arrived on a two-wheeler and asked about her destination. When she said she wanted to go to Mustabad, he told her he was heading in the same direction and offered her a ride.
Accused pushes victim, flees with gold chain
On reaching Venkayya Kunta outskirts under Mustabad limits, the man diverted the vehicle into bushes and pushed the woman to the ground. He snatched her three tola gold chain and fled on the bike.
The victim, injured in the incident, managed to reach the road and collapsed. Passersby noticed her and alerted the police.
Police shifted her to the Sirisilla area hospital for treatment.
Police register case, warn against such frauds
Based on a complaint from the victim’s relatives, police registered a case and launched a search for the accused, said Sub-Inspector Chindam Ganesh.
He cautioned that such incidents targeting elderly people are increasing and advised the public to remain alert while dealing with strangers.
