Government allocates 734 acres for Musi River project

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has taken another major step towards rejuvenating the Musi River. The Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA), Lokesh Kumar, issued orders (G.O. No.138) transferring 734 acres of land earlier allotted to various government institutions to the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL).
Land reallocated for riverfront development
The land parcels are located near Gandipet mandal’s Himayat Sagar, Kismatpur, and in Rajendranagar mandal’s Premavathipet and Budvel areas, previously allotted to organisations such as TISS Hyderabad (Tata Institute of Social Sciences), IIIPH (Indian Institute of Public Health), and Voluntary organisations. Additionally, land reserved for HMDA layouts in Kothwalguda of Shamshabad mandal has also been reassigned to the Musi project.
According to the CCLA order, these lands fall under Schedule 10 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act and remain subject to legal and procedural clearances. In exchange, the affected institutions will receive alternative plots in Future City, the upcoming government township.
ADB funding secured for ₹4.1 crore project
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed in principle to extend ₹4.1 crore in financial assistance for the Musi development initiative. The Centre has also approved the proposal to route external funding through ADB instead of the World Bank.
Municipal Administration officials finalised the agreement during meetings with ADB representatives held in Delhi in September, when Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was on a visit to the capital.
Masterplan and DPR under preparation
The Musi Riverfront Development Corporation has prepared a master layout for the project. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is expected to be completed and sent to the Union government by November.
Officials said the government is expediting the mobilisation of resources to launch large-scale riverfront works once approvals are received.
