Hyderabad activist demands action on encroached Musi River land used as parking lot
Hyderabad: Land encroachment issues have emerged regarding Musi River Government land at Afzal Gunj Road, opposite Osmania Hospital. An individual allegedly misappropriated the land for illegal parking over the past year, raising significant concerns among local residents and activists.
According to Galibe Vishal, an advocate, and RTI Activist, the land in question was initially utilised by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for garbage dumping. Following a year of use, the GHMC relocated the dumping site, leaving the land unattended. Subsequently, an individual identified as Mayur Singh began using the land for parking purposes, charging fees for parking vehicles. Vishal claims that this use of the land is illegal as no permission was granted for such activities.
Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Vishal expressed his frustration, saying, “I have raised this land encroachment issue with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) authorities, Nampally MRO, and local police CI. Despite repeated complaints and registering the issue on various platforms, including an online complaint on the GHMC App and social media X no action has been taken. The situation remains unresolved, and the land continues to be used for unauthorised parking.”
Vishal provided additional information that HS PARKING is the name of the parking area utilising the enclosed land for paid parking. The reported parking rates are Rs. 400 for lorries, Rs. 100 for cars, and Rs. 50 for three-wheelers.
Vishal has called for immediate action, requesting that an FIR be filed against HS PARKING for land encroachment and trespassing. He has also urged that the property be vacated promptly to prevent further misuse.
Galibe Vishal used ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter) to tag the official accounts of GHMC and its Mayor Vijayalaxmi Gadwal, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), and the Collector of Hyderabad. He wrote, “Please look into this matter. The MRO NAMPALLY and Musi Development Authority are not taking any action to address the encroachment of government land along the Musi River opposite Osmania Hospital in Afzalgunj, and are also illegally collecting parking fees.”
