350-year-old Mushk Mahal in Attapur abandoned, used by alcoholics

Hyderabad: A 350-year-old historical monument, Mushk Mahal, located in Attapur, Hyderabad, is facing severe neglect and disrepair. Once a majestic structure, it has now allegedly become a den for alcoholics and is in urgent need of restoration.
The palace, named after Khaja Mushk, an eunuch of Sultan Abdullah Qutub Shah VII, has been surrounded by overgrown trees and filled with debris. Its deteriorating condition has drawn the attention of heritage activists and concerned citizens.
Shaandaar Hyderabad (@swachhhyd), a local activist, has highlighted the issue on social media ‘X,’ previously known as Twitter, tagging Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and the Commissioner of HYDRAA, A.V. Ranganath. ” Mushk Mahal at Ataapur named after Khaja Mushk an Eunuch of Sultan Abdullah Qutub Shah VII. Mushk Mahal is a neglected palace that has fallen into disrepair. It has become a hotspot for alcoholics. We need your attention to restore this historical gem,” he wrote.

Heritage activist Syed Meraj Nawab expressed his concerns, urging the authorities to take immediate action to restore the structure. “Despite numerous efforts to bring attention to the plight of Mushk Mahal, no concrete steps have been taken to preserve this beautiful historical monument,” he said.
Local residents have also expressed their frustration over the lack of maintenance. Adam Banqash criticised the government for failing to protect and restore historical buildings. “The Mughals and Nizams built these magnificent structures, but the government’s inability to maintain and restore them is a great mistake,” he said.
Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Shaandaar Hyderabad said the importance of community involvement in preserving historical sites. “The responsibility of keeping these places clean and safe lies not solely with the government but also with the people,” he noted.
Shaandaar further urged the Telangana government to implement stricter measures to protect Mushk Mahal and other historical monuments in the city.
