MRPS Leader Manda Krishna SC Hails Supreme Court

Hyderabad: In his first reaction after the Supreme Court ruling allowing the classification within the reserved categories of Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs),Madiga reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) leader Manda Krishna Madiga hailed the judgment on Thursday.

Speaking after the judgment, MRPS founder and president, Manda Krishna Madiga in an emotional response said, “ MRPS has been fighting for this categorisation for the past 30 years. For this moment, we are eagerly waiting and protesting. This was a fight for the injustice meted out to a community. Several people lost their lives during the movement, and we dedicate this victory to them”.

He further added, “ For the last 30 years, we have been fighting despite several hindrances and humiliations. We stood like a rock and continued our fight. MRPS, to all the Dalit children from Madiga community, dedicate this victory. Several selfish people backstabbed us in this fight, but we did not lose our patience and we went ahead and achieved success”.

Meanwhile Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President KTR said that BRS welcomes the Supreme Court’s verdict in favor of SC classification. He noted that the victory was a result of the Madiga community’s struggle for SC classification.Based on the Supreme Court’s verdict, KTR demanded that the Congress government in the state immediately begin the classification process. He assured the government’s cooperation on behalf of BRS.

It is pertinent to note that in a significant victory for the Madiga community, the Supreme Court has rendered a favorable judgment allowing for the ABCD classification within the Scheduled Castes (SC) category. This decision marks the culmination of decades of struggle and advocacy by the Madiga sub-caste for equitable representation and reservation.

The Constitutional Bench, comprising six out of seven judges, ruled in favor of allowing states to implement the ABCD classification for SC sub-castes. Chief Justice of India (CJI), Justice DY Chandrachud, pronounced the judgment, with six justices concurring and one dissenting.Justice Bela Trivedi dissented from the majority view. This verdict overrules the earlier precedent set by the EV Chinnaiah judgment of 2004, which had held that sub-classification within the reserved categories was impermissible.
